Description

The verb naga (specifically in Ptc.), when used with preposition be, describes physical touching and is often used in conjunction with commands (e.g. Ex. 19:12, where the Israelites are forbidden to touch Mt. Sinai; Lev. 11:36, where Israelites are forbidden from touching wells or cisterns that "touch" carcasses, etc.). When the preposition is absent, it refers to reaching or coming close, such as a decree or reaching for something (e.g. Esther 4:3, where the decree to destroy all Jews "reaches" them and they weep; Gen. 28:12, where the ladder in Jacob's dream "reaches" the heavens, etc.).
